The artist is haunted by obsession, otherwise he/she could not create. That's what I'm trying to figure out right now in these stange days looking at images in Instagram.
If you look at Instagram today you can’t help but wonder for the tendency of replication. Artist seems to be paintings the same subject over and over again. What is the artist trying to says to others? And why do we feel engaged? Is it because the artist can't be stopped? How is it related to the threat which we are all experiencing?
Why this apparent repetition of the same image, view or combination of colours?
I find myself doing it too. It turns out that quality is determined not by technique, but by meaning. This is what I realized during this exercise. I was recording sounds in my garden, birdsong and the siren of ambulances. I was listening these sounds while doing digital drawings in the night, enable to sleep. Out of meaningless coloured spots I found old age, more beautiful than I could imagine, a shirt which summarised human fate, and first flowers of spring symbolic of life-simple and values eternal. It became a real obsession; again and again. I draw pain, anxiety, and longing from the spots of colour. And images become clear. Especially to we who communicate by digital path, on the internet grateful to be able to share our thoughts.
